Pennsgrove Permanent Supportive Housing Project

The Pennsgrove Permanent Supportive Housing Project (PPSHP) is located in West Philly. It is managed by the 1260 Housing Development Corporation (1260 HDC) branch of the nonprofit Philadelphia Mental Health Care Corporation (PMHCC). PPSHP provides ten one-bedroom permanent housing units to homeless persons who suffer from serious mental illness. The Access to Alternative Services unit of the County Department of Behavior Health and Retardation, the Office of Mental Health, and the Office of Supportive Housing make referrals.

Much of PPSHP's financial support is provided by local, state, and federal grants as well as private organizations. Tenants are expected to pay rent and utilities regularly.

PPSHP aims to offer residents a stable living environment, as a foundation for building self-determination and income. Program goals for residents include obtaining two forms of personal ID within three months, receiving mental and physical evaluations, entering structured daytime activities, and the realization of self-sufficiency targets. Other social and clinical work is generally handled through other agencies.
