Women United Together (WUT) provides transitional housing in West Philadelphia to 23 single women, including women coming from shelters, recent offenders, and those at-risk due to domestic violence. The Office of Supportive Housing makes referrals.
Case managers meet with residents to develop an Individualized Service Plan, which is revised every 90 days. Most programs and treatment for residents at WUT is done off-site, but staff members organize workshops and lectures on issues like recovery, relapse, money management, budgeting, and spirituality. Referrals are available for programs covering education, health care, substance abuse, job placement, counseling, and mental health. WUT has good relationships with organizations including the Department of Public Welfare, Charter Fairmont Inpatient/Outpatient, The Philadelphia Library, The Food Bank, Presbyterian Hospital Inpatient/Outpatient, Detoxification Units, Intensive Case Managers, and Mercy Hospital. Another part of achieving self-sufficiency is medicine management. Volunteers offer bi-weekly classes at WUT to educate residents about the importance of taking prescribed medications as instructed.
Food services are also available for residents that are unemployed or not receiving assistance. Staff members help residents set up savings accounts to help them move on to permanent housing. Referrals are also available to community and governmental organizations that help residents secure housing.
